Matthew Tan

Piano Instructor



Matthew is a talented pianist who has been passionate about music since a young age. Entirely self-taught, he was awarded a distinction for higher music composition in the music elective program. and also received a distinction for grade 8 keyboard in the Trinity Pop & Rock syllabus.

As a former member, band leader, and arranger for the Singapore Polytechnic Jazz Band, Matthew has been heavily influenced by the jazz idiom which has inspired him to explore not only the aesthetics, but the science of music.
Matthew has performed at the Esplanade, the Light to Night Bicentennial Festival, amongst numerous other venues and occasions, and also competed in the Singapore International Jazz Battle in 2018 emerging as one of two best soloists.

Besides being a pianist, Matthew also plays several other instruments including the saxophone and trumpet, and being classically trained in computer science allows him to share his knowledge of music from fresh perspectives.
