I enrolled at the The Music Lab six months ago after realizing that I had been stuck in a playing rut with the same tired rock covers and aimless attempts at covering new genres. It was perhaps one of the wisest decisions I had ever made. My instructor Bani is an amiable character who guided me through the fundamentals of playing bass and the importance of staying in the pocket. His groove and rhythm oriented lessons led to me playing with a much better feel and greater rhythmic authority. I was already impressed with the school's comprehensive syllabus and resources, but Bani took it a step further by imparting to me his knowledge of music theory and playing tips only an experienced professional can offer.

Bani's lessons have always been well paced and extremely enjoyable. His unique style of teaching involves jamming along on the guitar such that I have the space to develop my own bass lines. Such an approach not only makes learning less of a chore, but also offers me the thrilling experience of playing together with an expert musician. Furthermore, he would try his best to demonstrate the nuances of various genres using the keyboard and drums. Bani has also been prompt to give me the heads up on valuable learning opportunities like clinics and workshops which I might have been unaware of.

After these months with Bani, I realized that I have truly achieved my goal of musical development. Whereas I was once limited to learning off tabs for rock and pop covers, I find myself growing increasingly confident improvising my own lines in genres like Bossa Nova, Swing, Blues and perhaps even a touch of Latin. The versatility and groove were the very things I sought when I first started looking for a suitable instructor, and I am glad to say that Bani had indeed lit the path. I wish to express my deepest gratitudes to Bani, and I strongly recommend him to any bassists out there looking for some direction in their playing.
